Camp Cook

The Alberta Junior Forest Ranger (JFR) program presents a unique opportunity to those looking to combine their culinary arts with their love of the outdoors!

The camp cook works independently and provides three well-balanced meals plus snacks for a crew of 10 and occasional guests. Cooking facilities vary from district to district; however, a cooking facility typically consists of:

  • A cook trailer with a gas range.
  • A generator that provides electrical power to the refrigerator and deep freeze.
  • A potable water source.
  • Great helping hands from the crew for evening dishes.

The camp cook is integral to the Junior Forest Ranger team and works with the Crew Leader with scheduling and meal planning. The cook is given a budget, makes grocery orders and purchases once a week, and also has the opportunity take part in the some of the educational components of the program such as tours, presentations and out trips!

Compensation is $18.43 per hour, plus 11.2% holiday pay and is based on a 40 hour work week (8 hours per day).

Candidates are recruited locally and must have own transportation.

Employment begins during the first week of July and is terminated mid-August. Advertisement for positions starts in February.
