Alberta Junior Forest Ranger Jobs

Each year, the Alberta Junior Forest Ranger program offers a number of seasonal employment opportunities. Check them out!

Note: All participants require a Social Insurance Number (SIN). For information on applying for a Social Insurance Number, visit Service Canada's website at:

High School Work Experience Credit

The Alberta Junior Forest Ranger (JFR) program exposes students to careers options in the Forestry and Wildlife field.

Because the Alberta JFR program is a work experience program, several participants have gone on to obtain Work Experience credits.

Before submitting their application, students must build a plan with their school’s work experience coordinator for the student’s evaluation. The work experience coordinator will contact the JFR Program Specialist, and organize a site visit or phone interview.

Career Preparation and Future Employment

The Alberta JFR program will provide certifications and experiences applicable towards future employment. These certificates include:

  • BearAware and Cougar Awareness
  • Chainsaw Operator’s Certificate (Level 1 or Level 2)
  • Standard First Aid and Level A CPR
  • Wildfire Orientation
  • Plus, depending on the crew location:
    • Fall Arrest
    • Radio Operators
    • Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) Air and Ground
    • Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS)

The Alberta JFR program is recognized as an entry point into a variety of careers with Alberta Sustainable Resource Development and the Forestry Division. Beyond the training you receive, you will also learn about career options.

  • Air Attack Officer
