PFFC Wildfire Operations Support
A Wildfire Operations Support person is required to perform a variety of duties. The first priority is to process reports
of wildfires reported via the emergency 310-FIRE telephone line. In addition, they are responsible for general reception
calls, to complete data entry, post reports to the website, and support the various wildfire operations daily activities.
Job Classification: Administrative Support 3 (Operations Support)
Salary Range: $19.06 to $23.20 per hour depending on experience
Position Qualifications
Minimum Recruitment Standards
- High school diploma and one year of related experience.
- 18 years of age.
Education & Experience Preferred/Required
- Valid First Aid Certificate with CPR.
- Valid Class 5 Drivers License.
- Valid Defensive Driving Certificate.
- Experience in Microsoft Office, specifically: Word, Outlook and Excel.
- Highly organized individual with excellent keyboard, computer and communication skills.
- Experience in using Forest Protection software; Fire Information Resource System (FIRES), Dispatch, and Spatial Fire Management
System (SFMS) are desirable.
- Knowledge of aircraft, equipment capabilities, and manpower resources used in wildfire suppression.
- Knowledge of the Forest Protection program, policies, and standard operating procedures.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Answering the 310-FIRE line and transferring the call to the appropriate Area to be responded to. In addition, the call
will need to be logged in a spreadsheet for statistical purposes and an audit completed on the Area to ensure data entry
into FIRES.
- Answering incoming phones calls to the Wildfire and Air Operations room. Calls will need to be directed to the appropriate
person and/or information provided to the caller if the call is of a general nature.
- Data entry of hours worked by employees into FIRES.
- Posting of wildfire information to the bulletin boards and Forest Protection website.
- General office duties such as photocopying, filing, and faxing.
- Be available for export to other Areas and/or out of province.
Requirements
Completion of a fitness test may be a requirement of this position.
PFFC Wildfire Operations Information Coordinator
A Wildfire Operations Information Coordinator works closely with the Provincial Duty Officer to process provincial, national,
and international requests for manpower and equipment. In addition, they ensure accurate and timely data entry, correspond
regularly with the 10 Areas and national fire agencies, and summarize data and reports pertinent to wildfire operations.
Job Classification: Administrative Support 4
Salary Range: $20.98 to $25.64 per hour depending on experience
Position Qualifications
Minimum Recruitment Standards
- High school diploma and two years of related experience.
- 18 years of age.
Education & Experience Preferred/Required

Roles and Responsibilities
- Coordinating the provincial, national, and international dispatch of manpower and equipment resources.
- Working with the Duty Officer and Areas to ensure communication is sent and received in a timely manner applicable to
the dispatch of resources.
- Acquiring resources as necessary from lending agencies and completing data entry and communications applicable to those
agencies.
- Working with Air Operations for the coordination of fixed wing aircraft as it pertains to manpower.
- Maintaining records pertaining to manpower and equipment and completing data entry as required.
- Coordinating logistical requirements as required by Wildfire Operations i.e. transportation, lodgings, and food.
- Completing updates to the Forest Protection website.
- General reporting and gathering of statistical manpower and equipment information.
- Be available for export to other Areas and/or out of province.
- Completing the duties as outlined in Operations Support when those staff are not available.
PFFC Wildfire Air Operations Dispatcher
A Wildfire Air Operations Dispatcher works closely with the Provincial Aircraft Coordinator to process provincial, national,
and international requests for rotary and fixed wing aircraft. In addition, they work with the 10 Areas to respond to airtanker
requests, hire and release aircraft, complete data entry in an accurate manner, and gather information for statistical purposes.

- Working with the Provincial Aircraft Coordinator and Areas to ensure airtanker requests are responded to and completed
in an efficient manner. In addition, ensuring that all communication and data entry is completed accurately.
- Acquiring resources as necessary from lending agencies and completing data entry and communications applicable to those
agencies.
- Working with Wildfire Operations for the coordination of fixed wing aircraft as it pertains to manpower.
- Maintain and update aircraft contracts.
- Dispatch aviation fuel and refueling containers as requested.
- Regular communications with aircraft companies to hire and release their aircraft.
- General reporting and gathering of statistical aircraft information.
- Be available for export to other Areas and/or out of province.
- Completing the duties as outlined in Operations Support when those staff are not available.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will I have to work evening or weekends?
Some shifts are scheduled during evening and weekends, you may also be required to work overtime.
Are there living accommodations available?
No, living accommodations are not provided in Edmonton. You will be required to provide your own living and travel accommodations.
Is parking provided?
No, parking is not provided, however there are many daily rate lots available if you choose to drive and pay the daily parking
fee.
Am I expected to participate in the field on wildfires?
Depending on how busy the Area is, your experience, and willingness will you be asked to participate on wildfires. By participating
on a wildfire in a logistical support role you would gain a better understanding and appreciation of the logistics coordinator
position and wildfire operations section.
