Notice – March 16, 2011: Assignment Processing Temporary Schedule
The recent GLIMPS implementation has resulted in temporary changes to the assignment processing schedule. For more on this

On March 31, 2011, the Department Of Energy will decommission the Land Status Automated System (LSAS) mainframe system which
supports surface activity for Alberta Sustainable Resource Development (SRD).
- SRD has moved surface functionality into the Geographic Land Information Management Planning System (GLIMPS)
Industry will notice little difference in day to day surface activities. Current processes for accessing surface information
are the same. Slight differences in the ‘look and feel’ of search data are apparent but data accuracy and accessibility
are maintained.

About GLIMPS
What is GLIMPS?
GLIMPS stands for Geographic Land Information Management Planning System. Surface data and functionality that previously
resided in the Land Status Automated System (LSAS) now resides in GLIMPS
Why are we switching from LSAS to GLIMPS
The Land Status Automated System (LSAS) is on a mainframe computer that is being decommissioned on March 31, 2011.
To sustain our business, the functionality and data for surface activities have been moved into the GLIMPS system and will
be owned and managed by Alberta Sustainable Resource Development (SRD).
Functionality and data for sub-surface activities will remain with Alberta Energy.
When did the transition to GLIMPS occur?
The transition to GLIMPS occurred the weekend of March 4 to 7, 2011.
Using GLIMPS
I access surface activity information using Department of Energy’s Electronic Transfer System (ETS). Does this change affect
me?
Industry will notice little difference in day to day surface activities using GLIMPS. Current processes for accessing surface
information are the same. Slight differences in the ‘look and feel’ of displayed data are apparent but data accuracy and
accessibility have been maintained.
Surface search changes include:
- Search Products – LSAS searches were previously available in four formats: Report, Text, PDF, and ASCII
Formats.
Effective Mar 7, 2011, file formats are available in XML and PDF. The ASCII format will be replaced with XML (extensible
Markup Language). SRD has selected XML as a replacement for the ASCII format because it is universally supported and offers
benefits and flexibility unmatched by the ASCII format.
Please see a sample PDF and XML file below as well as information on how to view XML data in Microsoft Excel:
- Complete and Daily Incremental Files – Effective Mar 7, 2011 data will be provided in Comma Separated
Value (CSV) format rather than in ASCII format. This change will increase data usability.
Training for GLIMPS Enhanced
Do I require training for GLIMPS Enhanced?
No. The changes detailed above will be the extent of the changes for people accessing surface activity information through
