Jasper/Banff - Mountains/Foothills
From foothills to mountain peaks, the combination of wildlife species in this region varies according to the elevation and
the climate. Canyons, waterfalls and hot springs add to the richness of wildlife viewing opportunities here.
On the lower slopes, forests of white spruce and lodgepole pine predominate, whereas higher up the forest vegetation gives
way to wildflower-laden alpine meadows, stunted krummholz trees, and barren rock. Pika, ptarmigan and mountain sheep are
among the inhabitants of this craggy country, which is one of the most dramatic viewing locations in the world.
